The Small World Sextet inside on the Landing stage. L. to R.: Ron Wilkins, trombone and vocals; Curtis Calderon, trumpet and piano; Chuck Moses, bass; Kyle Keener, drums and vocals; Morris Nelms, piano; Polly Harrison, guitar and vocals.

Small World, led by vocalist/drummer Kyle Keener and vocalist/guitarist Polly Harrison, presents fine entertaining and swinging vocal jazz covering a wide range of styles. They have headlined at major jazz festivals featuring Doc Severinsen, Herbie Mann, Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, and Joe Pass and have traveled extensively throughout the US and Latin America.

The music: The Classic Jazz of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, as well as many evergreens from Great American Songbook composers. Polly and Kyle are also fans of vocal-jazz performers Mel Tormé, Sarah Vaughn, Nat Cole, The Four Freshman, Jackie and Roy, and Manhattan Transfer. The group also delights in more traditional material and adds it to the mix.

An important part of any Small World set is their performance of sophisticated, romantic, sensual Brazilian jazz and Bossa Nova music, masterfully sung by Kyle in the original language.

Here are what critics have written about the Small World Duo:

"New York sophistication..."

Herald-News

"The jazz variety show offered by the duet called Small World ranks with the best in the city."

Texas Monthly

"This one man, one woman group will amaze you with the depth and breadth of their sound."

San Antonio Current

"That Small World is the recipient of an Arts and Letters Award is fitting.   ...they're helping to insure the art of jazz remains alive, live and well.   That's the epitome of jazz; the epitome of art."

Jim Beale, San Antonio Express-News
